About Me

I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology at Texas State University. Broadly, my research and specialties are at the intersection of race and ethnicity, immigration, higher education, and Latinx Sociology. My research uses various qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews, archival methods, and ethnographic observations, to conduct research that aims to address social inequalities.

The broader focus of my research examines the social inequalities ethnoracial groups face and how intersecting statuses shape within group differences, as well as how these groups build community. My research examines three main interrelated areas: 1) the experiences of students of color in higher education, 2) immigrant wellbeing, and 3) immigrant perceptions of discrimination.

My research has received supported from various sources, including the President’s Diversity Dissertation Fellowship at Indiana University (IU), the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Minority Fellowship Program Travel Award, as well as research grants from the Center for Research on Race and Ethnicity in Society (CRRES), and various units at IU including the Department of Sociology, Asian American Studies Program, Latino Studies Program, and Graduate & Professional Student Government.
